Probably not - but it comes pretty darn close. Here you go:

I thought the most disgusting travel behavior I had ever seen was the man in a crowded gate area in LAX who flossed his teeth. His wife gave him a long look, obviously in preparation for telling him he was a pig - then she pullled out her floss and starting working on her own chompers. However, yesterday was worse.

Sitting in first. Middle-aged woman (50ish), clearly a regular flyer, gets herself settled in 1B. I had noticed her in the gate area, positioned to be first on plane (not aggressive, just wanted to be settled right away, I'm guessing), and working on one of her fingernails. The fingernails were manicured, but she seemed to have some problem with one of them. Once on the plane, she went on a mission. Apparently, her methodology for removing the enamel used to create the white strip across the top of the nail ("French tip???") was to bite it off. She proceeded to do this while reading a book, making loud chipping noises similar to a pickaxe striking granite. Ah, and that was only the annoying part - the disgusting part was her follow-through in which she picked the offending material off of her tongue (sometimes the size of a large snowflake) and flicking it onto either the ground or.......the seat.

Just imagine all the creative behaviors one could come up with to subject her to in order to make the point that not ALL activities done in the privacy of one's home should take place on an airplane.

Of course, she finished off the entire sequence by filing her nails with an emory board - something that has led to direct confrontations several times in my life, since that is one of the two sounds in the universe that makes my skin crawl.

So - am I just too sensitive or what?!?!?!!??!
