Does anyone know if the Military Rate only applies to those serving in the country where the hotel is, or if it would apply to all NATO military?

I'm booking hotels in Canada and I'm UK military, I usually find Canadian and American businesses are pretty good about extending military discounts to UK forces but I didn't want to book the military rate then find I wasn't eligible when I checked in. Thanks.
