I can well understand that perspective when you live in Köln (or any other Northern European city).
But when you are retired and live in Cape Town, you would be an idiot (your words, not mine) if you did NOT wear shorts and went barefoot (most of the time) in summer.
Remember that on FT we are a very diverse community!
