Instead of saying my room number aloud when entering breakfast or the lounge, I always tell the employee that I'll SHOW them my rooms number but I WILL NOT SAY IT ALOUD and I DO NOT WANT THEM TO SAY IT ALOUD EITHER. I then show them my key card envelope. Despite this, many nevertheless announce the room number loudly to the entire room. I complain, rinse and repeat on my next stay.

When front desk agents do not say room numbers aloud, it seems to negate the whole policy when other employees either aren't trained the same way to respect guests' personal privacy and security or adopt an attitude that they're going to announce the room number regardless of what the guest does proactively to try to prevent this.
