Yeah, I'd read some scary stuff about 9C but it was totally fine. Planes were in good condition, normal amount of leg space (on some Pegasus and Air Asia flights I've been on my legs touch the next seat, I'm only 5'8"). People were a little crazy (the whole time people are just beeping the flight attendant button to order food) but it was aiight.
Oh, update on my trip: just scored 10k UA miles and a $500 voucher for a ginormous f up on UA award ticket flown by TK. I never got around to booking the LX ticket so that was 12k saved there as well. Actually, I think the evidence pointed more towards TK, and I really needed to have actual expenses covered, but I think the offer was generous at least (I still have no idea when the flight in question was cancelled and who was responsible to notify whom, or who actually did. long story).
Anyway it was enough to get me from LA to NJ to visit family and then to GA to start my AT thru with half of the voucher left over. No clue who to credit *A miles to these days though....

Thanks. If you don't have access to money or CC's (working on this..short credit history, and low to no income) then you better be darn good at using what you have.
Another strong motivation was the absolute loathing I came to have about living in Los Angeles and the many many fantasies I came up with for how to travel to everywhere else that held me over while I finished my degree.

I was going to do it by bus but it turned out my flight to SSH was cancelled- that was an f up and a half...anyway it cut a couple days out of my trip and I ended up only seeing Cairo, Luxor and environs, Aswan. I met plenty of other tourists on my trip who had done Sharm-Cairo by bus or minivan, they said it was totally fine.
I took trains (1st and 2nd class) between the cities I visited - not the crazy expensive Watania ones for tourists - it was totally fine. Actually the seats are surprisingly comfy but dusty as heck. Used the metro throughout Cairo, haram to get from the metro to pyramids. I didn't take any private taxis in Egypt other than on two trips that I did through my hostel in Luxor.
