both lay-overs in Canada are more than 6 hours. Now I only get the option for a free stop-over/hotel night in YYZ??? I want the night in YVR!

It also says that you can have a similar stop-over on the return flight. The T&C do not mention that you need to have a >6h lay-over time to have this, but I am still not getting this option for my return flight either
let's forget about the free hotel program for a minute.

First, when purchasing a ticket, there are different booking classes. Some classes are more restrictive than other. (ex: stopover allowed for free or for a price, stopover not permitted, minimum stay, Saturday overnight, etc) Hence, the difference in price.

You can have a stopover almost at anywhere, but are you willing to pay?

already mentioned by "ChrisA330", P class does not allow stopover as per fare rules. So either you purchase another class which allows stopover (usually pricier) or a ticket consists of 3 fares or more (ex: a fare for DUB to YVR, YVR to HNL and HNL to DUB, usually pricier than a normal round-trip ticket)

If you want to stay in YVR for more than 24 more hours, you have to book with multi-city, by doing this you are not eligible for the free hotel.
