ExpertFlyer alerts will show you are wrong. AA doesn't automatically open saver inventory at T-331, but it doesn't systemically hold off until T-330 or T-329, either.

The OP should be using ExpertFlyer award alerts for every acceptable date/flight/cabin of service. AA saver awards can be scarce in premium cabins for long-haul flights. He'll find many threads in the AA forum complaining about award availability.
