Although I'm not the OP to your question, from my perspective there is a substantial increase in comfort and real estate with the F seats vs the J seats, even on the 77W.
I'm speaking with the experience of flying in the "new" F 3 times in the last couple of months or so, with one trip being DFW-HKG in F, and returning a week later HKG-DFW in J. I longed for the F seat..
On these flights I sat in 2A, 2J, and with my wife also in F, 2D. I found them all excellent, and I guess I might have been lucky, but on all flights received the proper turn down service, with the padding.
I also experienced what I consider quite good service from the pursers and rest of crew.
