You're arriving at LGA at 2pm, going to to Garden City, and then are leaving from JFK the same day at 8:30? Wow.

Ok....I also recommend car service from LGA. That's the quickest way.

As for going to JFK from Garden City, you could be stuck on the Belt Parkway as you'd have to travel during rush hour. In fact, you WILL be stuck on the Belt Parkway. Even if you take the LIE (Long Island Expressway) to the Van Wyck thereby bypassing the Belt Parkway, you still could be stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

The quickest way to JFK is via rail taking the Long Island Railroad (LIRR) to Jamaica and then taking the Airtrain to JFK. For Garden City, you have a choice of 4 stations: Merillon Ave on the Port Jefferson branch; Nassau Blvd, Garden City and Country Life Press on the Hempstead Branch. The Merillon Ave stop is a quicker trip to Jamaica. To look up schedules: http://lirr42.mta.info/index.php The LIRR website can also tell you if there are delays on the branches.

Food for thought. Good luck.
