Have you considered taking the Long Island Rail Road from Woodside Station to Garden City? You can get from LGA to Woodside via the Q-70 Limited bus, or via a short (10-minute?) taxi ride.
Ah - google maps suggested it was two buses and two trains. What's the realistic travel time doing it this way?

Visit mta.info to check the frequency of LIRR train service from Woodside to Garden City at around your time of arrival into LGA. You could save a few $$$ in rail fare if you took the Q-70 bus to the Roosevelt Avenue subway station and transferred there to the E subway to Jamaica Station. (Transfer is free if you have a Metrocard.) That might or might not be slower than catching the LIRR at Woodside, depending on the train schedules.
And depending on where you are headed in Garden City, the LIRR to Mineola might work too. (There is more frequent service to Mineola than to Garden City.)
