Hyatt High Sierra Lodge (Residence Club), Lake Tahoe REVIEW - MASTER THREAD

Just finished another wonderful stay, this time in the Hyatt timeshares which are located across the main parking lot. (There doesn't seem to be a dedicated thread for the timeshares so this looks to be the most appropriate place to post.)

Pros:
  • 2BR units have way more space than just about every hotel option - comparable to cottages but larger and nicer furnishings
  • Price (we paid $239/nt, though could have saved more with $199 non-ref rate)
  • Excellent wifi, nice kitchen with full size frig, 'wave, stove and dishwasher
  • Can use all of hotel amenities including pool and gym (keys provided)
  • Less crowded checkin, no cig smoke in common areas

Cons:
  • Same resort fee but no valet parking and a bit of a hike to hotel facilities (as a result we didn't use pool, etc.),
  • walking to rooms and/or hotel not so great on winter nights with snow falling and black ice in parking lot
  • Insufficient parking near some buildings
  • Lack of privacy for first floor rooms
  • Keys automatically disabled on Sundays requiring a trip back to front desk

Overall, a great choice for families - but without kids I would choose to stay in hotel in order to be closer to amenities. With the snow falling I was also more appreciative of the valet service (or lack thereof at the timeshares)

Sadly not a great experience at Lone Eagle this time - the waiter was one of the worst I've seen in a while - clearly should be put out to pasture or another line of work. Thankfully kitchen was still good.

Addendum: Casino winter weekend rate is still $119/nt for basic room (at least for low rollers like me).

Also for those who plan to ski there will be plenty of snow through mid-April - in fact Squaw Valley is not planning to close until May! The drought would appear to be history...
