MUC-EWR on UA (K class)
My partner, who is a 1K, was doing the booking with his account.
Prior to payment, the website informed him there was upgrade space available on the MUC-EWR flight, so we selected the upgradable fare class (W) for that segment and were immediately confirmed into BF (R class).
Confirmation email was received from United reflected the above booking and fare classes and price. It had the standard message stated that reservation was not yet ticketed pending confirmation from LX and LH.
When the reservation was finally ticketed and confirmed today, all the flights were now in W class, no upgrade was listed on the MUC-EWR segment and the final ticketing price listed was $818 more than the original purchase price reflected in the initial email.
My partner hasn't yet had a chance to call about this, and I guess we could always just cancel the itinerary, but anyone ever had anything like this happen before and would an agent be able to restore the original itinerary and pricing?
I've recently been trying to book a flight to LHR from the US in March using miles + $$ to upgrade. I started out with fares that were around $350 plus the $550 for the upgrade for the outbound and now, within days, I'm getting fares of $1,700. I keep going back trying to get different routes and am getting some insane fares that are over $2000 so I haven't booked anything. It even tells me that the economy fare isn't even available at any cost. Trying different browsers because I'm aware of the issues with trying to book again on the same browser but I keep getting ludicrous fares even although the load factor does not seem to have changed in the interim. It is either intentional or there are some real issues with booking flights on UA. This isn't a simple round trip, but even when I try to do the round trip as part of it and add the other segments there is a huge discrepancy in fares within two days.
