My trips across the equator have been among the smoothest AND most violent flights ever. I have also had several transatlantic (west coast to Europe) without a seatbelt light on the whole time. One of my most turbulent flights ever was a bay area to LA area flight on Air Cal. It was like a moderate earthquake from takeoff to landing with the FA's seated the whole time (and they really needed to be).
