BA and AA belong to an alliance called oneworld. The point of that alliance is to allow you to earn TPs and Avios on all alliance members. The TPs are generally the same, the Avios can be slightly different, and the calculator indicates these differences. The only catch is that if AA features on your booking and it's a long way off, don't be surprise if AA change the details on a regular basis between now and flying!
