I had the same experience, YYZflyer.

Besides is it unreasonable to expect a donut shop to serve fresh donuts?!? Tim's has become complacent and they're blindly (and foolishly) relying on their canadian "institution" status for our patronage. Sound familiar Mr. Milton?

A Tim Hortons employee told me that frozen donuts allows them to make less donuts more often instead of a few big batches a day. The trick is, he told me the shelf life of a thawed donut is only a few hours...

Krispy Kreme, have gone the opposite direction, with donuts so fresh they're still warm. With Tim's this is no contest.
