I wish Barclays would have made clear from the start that no upgrades were going to be available and that the companion tickets will not earn miles. Prior to the merger, you could get upgraded on US. Airways (without using the AA 500 mile upgrades) and companions earned miles. I am not sure this perk is really worth spending $30,000 and paying the annual fee.
