Definitely book your second night at one of the limited-service properties, but I've had really good luck in situations like yours asking at check-in if I could get a second night. A sellout weeks in advance often has rooms available when you're standing there at the front desk. Then, of course, don't forget to cancel your backup reservation before the cut-off time!
