Oy - iron, I'm thinking you got the 'regular' ferry, not the hydrofoil...? The hydrofoil was an experience in its own right, being mostly open to the sea, wind - and water - but escape woulda been no issue, at least. It's usually a pretty rough passage from what i can tell - tho the view of the hillside lights is very cool.
Regarding AF food - I've flown their business class a lot, and the food is usually very good as you experienced. Even had ostrich one time.
Regarding "Shrimp starter, along with more fois gras. Looking around - I found almost everyone poking at...and then refusing to touch the fois gras. Next time I'm on Air France I'm going to ask for them to take double helpings for me from all those who can't or won't appreciate it!" -
Well - if you ask nicely, they will normally bring you another foie gras serving

Assuming they have an extra and usually they do. You can sometimes even get a third, tho that can be risking a 'crise de fois.' I've even had them save me a cold appetizer plate (with foie gras) for breakfast, if I found the breakfast options unappealing ahead of time.
Anyway something to consider if you fly them again.
