I finished a two night stay last week... and although I liked the hotel in general I'm still not quite sure what to think of it in comparison to the other Tokyo properties.
I was, pleasantly, surprised with the location. While I thought that it would be in a rather drab district it wasn't as bad as I thought. The subway connections are nearby and plenty of things in walking distance as well. Overall I still like the Shinjuku area better but this was good too.
Booked a standard king and got one with a view of the Tokyo tower so that was nice. I'm a bit undecided about the room itself though. It's roomy and some features are great, but some others aren't. I didn't really like the wall design, it makes the room seem sterile and I found it lacking the harmony I was expecting. Another thing I really didn't like was the placement of the sofa.... blocking what could have been a great view from the bed. What idiot decides to place that large a sofa in front of those floor to ceiling windows, and with the back to the windows as well? And as mentioned already, the tables are beautiful but hardly practical. And the lighting above it looks horrible...
Design wise I found this to be somewhat of a failure....
But what was the most annoying feature was the bathroom/toilet. No way to have any decent lighting during the night (it's all or nothing there, with just the option to turn on/of the make-up or shaving mirror lighting separately. No way to have a single bulb on for just the toilet..... which by the way is the loudest toilet I heard in quite a while. It resembles an airplane toilet. And that stupid automatic toilet seat gets annoying after that first time as well. It's all guaranteed to wake you up at night when your travel companion needs to use it

.
The bath is pretty nice though, and large enough for two....
I'm also unsure of what to think of the lounge area. I find it doesn't really work with furniture that is uncomfortable and seating that lacks any privacy when it's busy (and the booths are somewhat dull). Staff during cocktail hour wasn't great either, serving some but not others... And better decide if you want to offer any snacks. The volume and quantity that was there was almost insulting. Offer something decent or offer nothing.
The restaurant and bar were a lot better..... nice cocktails and surprisingly great food, both at breakfast and for dinner. Nice to have some live music in the evening as well. A bit stupid though that you have to get your coat (in winter) when you go to the rooftop bar from the lounge since you have to cross an open and windy area.
Didn't really like that there were so many loud business people there as well, but that's something any hotel has little control over. They could have discouraged using the lounge and breakfast area as a meeting room, but that's probably not done in Japan. Combined with the occasional older Japanese guy and his western bimbo it made for a somewhat amusing and annoying clientele.
So overall still a pretty decent stay. But I'm not sure with some of the negatives that I will stay again for the rates they are charging.....
