Short version: At check in, they told us they had a double room available, but if we wanted a king room (specifically that does NOT face the parking lot), one was being cleaned and we could have it shortly and they would notify housekeeping we were waiting.
Over the next two hours, we verified + verified that our non-parking-lot-facing-king room was almost ready. They continually said yes.
Two hours later....they gave us a room -- it was a king facing the parking lot
After speaking with a clerk and supervisor and going in circles endlessly for half an hour (which included that the ONLY other room they now had was a double facing the pool for +$40/night) we had a king facing the parking lot -- and were very, very upset over the situation and the time wasted.
I said I wanted any standard room that didn't face the parking lot and they said that was the only standard room they had to give us and anything else was an 'upgrade' and more $.
If they had not promised a different room for that whole time we sat there, it would be different. We would've settled for the double at the beginning.
Note: It was a Priceline reservation, but upon check in, they OFFERED the king room we waited for. I don't know if the room they were 'going' to give us faced the pool or side street -- just that they said it didn't face the parking lot.
