For inter-southeast asia...you can fly AirAsia for about $20-50 each way. Tons of flights in the region and very convenient.

For GUC upgrades, I'd imagine DTW-NRT-BKK is probably your best bet. You can OJ to/from SIN if you want to switch it up...but rumor is those 767's on the route make GUC usage difficult for the SIN-NRT hop. DTW-NRT on the other hand is a 747 with plenty of D1 seats..and the upper deck!
Yeah, will call the DM line later this week once they've settled down from the storms and see if they can spend some time looking at different options. I'd love to get the GUC applied at booking, but from what I've read on a few dozen pages of that thread, it's pretty rare. I do love the upper deck DTW->NRT. Used to fly it often and now that I've changed jobs I do mostly RJs on short 500 mile hops...

As for things to do in Thailand. If we get to BKK we may spend a day or two. Ultimate plan is wedding and then relaxing. Would like to check out Ko Phi Phi and maybe Krabi. Need to get wedding venue locked in, then can figure out the rest including exact flight details.
