That's a very wise approach.

But in any case, the suggestion that you have to check in together is absolutely positively 100% wrong. My companion and I check-in separately far more often than we check-in together, because we usually can't accurately coordinate the times at which we leave our respective offices for LHR. And it is not a problem, full stop.
