i was/am 2 miles from budget return at iad with impassable or at the very least roads that require 4 wheel drive to navigate. I parked their vehicle in a garage next to the hotel to protect it from the storm. They informed me i could have their towing service bring it to them for a cost. If i did not have my daughter with me i would have been happy to go slip sliding away in a rental car to their return lot and walk back to the hotel ( no taxis available). My point is they were not going to drive in these conditions but i am expected to. I thought a little common sense might prevail and i would return the vehicle when roads are open.
Just pay the extra day, you do have the keys and the car in your possession. It's your call that you don't want to drive back to the rental lot because of your daughter, while they are willing to pick up the car for a cost (of course they charge you for that service). Also, you could have known the weather would be ..... Hell I even knew it, and I live in Europe. Even our local news mentioned it a couple of times before the blizzard hit. A tip for you in life: don't make your problems other peoples problems.
