They could tell me what nobody else could, because they could speak to the relevant people at LHR, who nobody else - apparently - can speak to. They were - within half an hour - able to tell me that the bag was sitting safely in ZRH and would be out to LHR on a flight later that day. Question answered !
Not 15 mins later, I got a text message from the tracing system to confirm that my bag had already arrived at LHR earlier that morning and was being processed for delivery. It was then duly delivered (at 2.00AM, which was a far from ideal timing ....).
Plainly the information which the GGL team had received from the LHR baggage team was just plain wrong ! What hope is there for anyone with a system this dysfunctional ??
How can it be that with the present level of security, there is no immediate ability to trace the whereabouts of a tagged bag? Can it really be that when it is loaded it is not scanned, and that this information is not available real time to anyone with access to the system? Has anyone ever had an explanation of how this can be ?
Proves the point then that it is pointless trying to track it down yourself. Even for a GGL I'd be very surprised if the baggage people went rummaging through the cases to find a specific bag.
Isn't World Tracer updated on a batch basis, ie not real time?
