Good service recovery from GGL line
Last Thursday 21 Jan I was due to leave Houston on the BA194 - IAH to LHR, then IB onto Madrid the following morning (flights were in Business).
On waking at 0430hr (unfortunately my usual Houston wake up time) I checked to see how the flights were and the BA195/194 rotation had been cancelled. The nice BA ‘puter had rerouted me via Miami, with which I was not entirely comfortable. I called the GGL line in the UK and it was the usual remarkable 2-3 seconds wait before they answered. The agent apologised profusely and said he’d do what he could – in fact he asked what routing I preferred!
Given the pending mess in the North East US due to the storm and that some flights were already being cancelled, the options were either pretty complex (3-4 stops) - or very easy: AA Houston to Dallas and then AA onto Madrid non-stop. The Madrid flight was on the AA 787-8 in Business, so off I gladly went. The edge of the storm was causing issues in Texas, with high winds and poor visibility, so my IAH-DFW was delayed and my transit time as DFW dropped from 1-3/4 hours to 55 minutes. Despite its size I always find DFW quite stress-free. The AA 787 was very nice, trying out the new Business seat (much like the 77W I am told), a quick but not rushed drinks / dinner service and a good sleep.
My case made it to MAD, so all-in-all a good recovery.
A well done to the GGL line; I’m sending them a thanks.
