Interlining BA to LAN on separate itineraries?

We have a flight coming up with BA in F GLA-LHR-GRU followed by LAN in J GRU-SCL, with about 5 hours stopover in GRU. The BA and LAN flights are on separate itineraries; am I likely to be able to check hold luggage through to SCL from GLA? Also, in the event of any difficulties, is there any protection of the second trip? (appreciate it's probably not contractual protection, but are they likely to be of assistance?)

Final question - any suggestions of the best lounges / other places to spend the 5 hour layover? BA Gold, arriving in BA F and departing in LAN J.

Thanks
