In my experience Aeroplan will book you into revenue space on AC metal when a schedule change substantially disrupts your itinerary. As for whether a late arrival on the same day is a "substantial disruption", that's really up to the agent, I don't know of any published policy on it. But they've always been good to me. When in doubt, hang up and call again.
