either in 96 or 97, i took an AF flight that allowed smoking in the way back of the plane near the economy bathrooms/galley - it was pretty much the FA's and about 5 pax for the majority of the flight - i understand the argument against smoking on flights, but i do recall it was good conversation - however, I don't recall if it was from the US to the Europe or Europe to India - one of the two - I haven't flown AF since then, so I don't know if they still allow it.
