This page offers an explanation of Menseki Hosho, which seems to be enhanced CDW protection:

Basic Insurance

3rd party Liability (Taijin, Taibutsu) – Body Injury / Property Damage
Loss Damage Waiver/Collision Damage Waiver (LDW/CDW)* (Sharyo Hoken) – Car Damage protection
Physical disability (Jinshin Shogai)

*This LDW/CDW is rental car damage protection and it usually has a deductible about 20,000 – 50,000 Yen. Please note in Japan, they do not call this insurance LDW/CDW and to avoid confusion, use Sharyo Hoken instead.

CDW (Menseki Hosho) – Zero Deductible : 1000 – 2000 yen per day.
What is confusing in Japan is, the most of companies have CDW (Menseki Hosho) as an option but this optional CDW (Menseki Hosho) is different from CDW (Sharyo Hoken) as the car damage protection, which is already included. The optional CDW (Sharyo Hoken) is used to waive the deductible amount, so it is more like and excess reduction or Zero Deductible option.

For some reason, most of companies use the name of CDW wrongly but Toyota Just changed how they call CDW (Menseki Hosho) as “Exlusion of Liability Compensation System”. I assume other companies will change the name sooner or later.
