Ah, time will tell won't it? UA in La La land embarked upon the LAX-MEL route with the 789 thinking it would be a winner. They must have had some sort of business case in hand to feel it would be profitable. However, the route has been plagued with MXs and cancelled flights. Not much consumer confidence in the reliability of UA and worse in the in flight product - pay for snacks on a 13.5 h flight? Give me a break! The fact of the matter is that with all the new competition, UA is hopelessly outclassed now on the AUS-USA routes. My feeling is UA LAX-MEL is doomed.
