Depending on if, and which, C gate OP is departing from, might be worthwhile taking underground (pre-security) train to C by exiting glass doors after bag drop and going through PreCheck there.
This sounds like a good local tip, because Terminal E Pre will almost certainly be closed at that hour. (And of course transit security just plain sucks.)
Just to be clear, instead of bearing right past the bag drop you head left as if you were exiting the airport.
I've always liked transiting IAH. Pretty easy airport to navigate with good UCs (and now a Dunkin Donuts right next to Termnal E UC).
