Well this is an interesting thread.

I just received my brand new Irish passport. My Android phone (Nexus 4) can read my Canadian passport just fine and my girlfriend's Irish passport but doesn't see a chip in my Irish passport at all.

The N4 is a bit old, it's coming up on 3 years now I think. I wonder if there's a new NFC standard that this phone doesn't support?
