I know that there will be worse horror stories yet to be posted in this thread. Mine just turned out very inconvenient. I feel sorry for those persons with worse situations still to be reported.

As posted up thread in Post #93, as soon as the waiver was announced, I moved my Friday flight that was scheduled IAH-BOS to arrive at 8:44 pm to Thursday. The new routing for Thurs. was IAH-EWR-BOS. I even got upgraded on the IAH flight on a 767-400-ER with BusinessFirst and dinner. So far, so good.

But the flight from IAH was delayed for "fueling problems", (what, no fuel in the energy capital?)
After sitting quite a while on the ground on the flight, I got antsy because I was booked on the last stage out of town at EWR.
After a couple of alcoholic PDBs , I just said what the heck. It looks like I will need to spend the night at EWR.

When the math made it clear that I would miss the connection, I called the 1K number and was on hold for less than a minute. I explained the situation to the agent. She agreed I would miss my connection at EWR to BOS and would need to spend the night.

She booked me on the 10:30 am flight on Friday, an ERJ175, and even booked me into a single seat in First, I guess as a courtesy, maybe because I was already in First. I don't know why and did not object.

My flight got into EWR an hour and twenty six minutes late at 9:53 pm. The flight to BOS was scheduled for 9:58.
Actually, that flight was late too and I possibly could have made it as the gates were close to each other, if they had let me board. But my checked luggage would not get to BOS till the next day (maybe).

So I just decided to get my food voucher and stay in my free hotel room. I am at the Marriott at the airport. In the morning I will enjoy my Marriott Gold breakfast, shuttle to the airport, my TSA pre-check, and hopefully a non-cancelled flight to BOS in the front cabin. I did get to a hotel an hour earlier than I would have in BOS. I did miss out on a social engagement I had planned upon arrival at BOS.

So far, I have only been mildly inconvenienced, but glad I follow Flyertalk to be able to jump right on my flight changes when the weather waiver was announced. I know that I am fortunate because there will be thousands of travelers in far worse circumstances because they did not benefit from reading Flyertalk to be better prepared. There will be thousands of unprepared travelers sleeping in airports.

I am also thankful for the 1K phone number which connected me quickly with an agent. I know that hold times for others are much longer.

Now, if I can just get home from BOS!
