I guess it depends upon your family. My parents always went on vacation alone when we were growing up. While I hated it when I was little, I now understand why they wanted to enjoy their vacations by themselves. Ususally one of our grandparents or aunts would stay with us. As we got older, we joined them on some but not all of their trips.
