If it's really that bad, then why not just shut down the IAH hub totally if the best that can be done is fly RJ's to the nation's capital?

As the OP mentioned, up until at least the mid 2000's routes such as IAH-DCA and IAH-AUS were totally mainline and with as much or more frequency. Now they are less than half. And no, the 175's really don't cut it on flights this long. Plus they are among the first to cancel when weather issues arise (as we will probably see tomorrow). And also, the carry on storage on the left side of the 175's is terrible. So these aircraft really aren't business flyer friendly.
