I want to start a thread to discuss methods to lower the cost to get to the Newark airport from NYC. The current rail fare is $11.55 each way (which is triple what a normal rail fare would cost at this mileage).

Suggestions and ideas on how to get the cost down to $5 or less each way from midtown Manhattan to the Newark airport. I do not mean by an alternate, slow method, but rather, ways to lower the cost of the 20-minute station-to-station travel to $5 each way.
