BA U.S Travel & Esta Expiry Query

Morning all,

I am travelling from LHR - JFK the week after next. I am just a little concerned about my ESTA status and how the BA check in staff will interpret it after reading about people on here having problems in the past.
I updated my ESTA to include my latest accommodation in the U.S, and when doing so noticed that my current ESTA runs out on the 19th Feb. I will have returned from my trip by this point, and after a bit of googling at the time, came to the conclusion that I didn't need a minimum time period on my ESTA to allow entry into the U.S.

However I have just received the following email from the ESTA dept. I think it is basically telling me that if I plan on travelling after the expiration date I'll need to renew. Or if I plan on travelling before the date I wont need to (or indeed be able to) renew my ESTA.

Have I got this right, and has anyone got any experience of check in staff saying otherwise?

Here is the email:-

"Subject: ESTA Expiration Warning
ATTENTION! The travel authorization submitted on February 19, 2014 via ESTA will expire within the next 30 days. It is not possible to extend or renew a current ESTA travel authorization. You will need to apply for a new ESTA travel authorization. Please reapply at https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov if travel to the United States is intended in the near future. If there are 30 or more days left on the old authorization you will receive a warning message during the application and be asked if you wish to proceed."
