Overnight stopover luggage - split checkin...

Long back story but may have to change plans for a stopover at LHR on Saturday pm, was travelling with hubby who was going to fly down with me and then fly back home in the am. But like my usual Baldrick style cunning plans it is all falling apart at the last minute.

So, my original plans were to check my two bags in at NCL on Sat pm and pick them up at IAD Sun pm with Hubby taking my overnight gear etc home with him (I was planning on taking a smaller cabin bag). Running through the various scenarios that are now in front of me ...

1) I can check both bags just through to LHR and then schlep them back and forth sat pm / sun pm (not a great idea!)

2) Take the bigger cabin bag (which I know is legal as have travelled with it on BA a few times)

3) Or is it possible to check one bag through to Iad and one bag to LHR and then recheck the one bag to join up with the other one in the morning or will that just complicate matters?

(Travelling F if that makes any difference)

Thanks
