At CES last week I saw a demo of a new MasterCard mobile app to pay for your fuel at the gas station. I pointed out to the guy that in New Zealand, Australia and in Europe where I've driven extensively that most petrol stations have big signs telling you not to use phones or handheld radios due to the explosion risk.
"That's what all our partners have said to use" was his response, followed by "we don't have such rules here".
I must have a look at signage at a US gas station next time I'm over there and hire a car!

I was amused to be refueling at a Chevron station in Mountain View that now accepts contactless pay-at-pump, with a big sign (sponsored by Visa) encouraging phone based payments -- on the same pump that also said not to use your phone while refueling.
