I used to be a PVD disciple, but now my allegiances are shifting back to BOS. In four trips out of BOS since 9/11, I've never been stuck in a security line for more than five minutes, and that includes several trips through the international terminal during the peak early evening hours. As for PVD, you need to count on a bare minimum of half an hour if you're trying to clear security for a morning flight. They have tried several checkpoint configurations in order to squeeze as many metal detectors as possible into a limited space, but the bottleneck is still there. I think the airport has become more popular than the designers could have ever imagined. PVD bills itself as "The Hassle-Free Gateway to New England." I have to disagree.
