Well I gave away most of the points in my account and my expiration date is now 2017. So if you give 1000 points to someone, that will reset the clock.
That's interesting because the T&Cs say gifting points won't extend the expiry date. But then again the T&Cs said there was supposed to be a $10 charge & you weren't charged.
"Not all Points activities help maintain active status in the Rewards Programs. The following activities do not count toward maintaining an active status in the Rewards Programs:
•gifting or transferring Points; however, converting Points to Miles or Miles to Points does count toward maintaining an active status
•receiving Points as a gift or transfer"
