This turns into the NYS Thruway a few miles up the road (toll road) which will then take you pretty much right to Niagara Falls.
I used to make the trip in about 7-8 hours, depending on stops and how lucky I felt. 
BTW, the stops on both the PA Pike and the Thruway have been upgraded in recent years, so stopping for quick bite or a cuppa on the way can be very relaxing.

ahh, thank you. i wasn't sure if i should stick to my map program's suggestion of taking those small, middle of nowhere PA highways. looks like taking the PA turnike is the way to go
