Fair enough. That reminds me that there's a business version of the Barclay Aviator card that gives similar points. I almost always forget about those business cards because they seem generally unappealing to me.
One other consideration the OP might make is to instead get a ThankYou points earning card like the Prestige or Premier. The categories might make sense, and the ability to use points for AA flights at a higher rate might fit in perfectly. That's on top of benefits such as fourth nights at hotels free and airline credit reimbursement.
