In terms of regional US foods, there are only a couple that I'd ever bother with:
Nalley's Jalapeno hot chili (when I lived in Michigan, I always took some home from the west coast)
Dr Pepper from Dublin, Texas. Enough said.
However, the humorous trips are always the ones to Canada. With a wife that is Canadian, as well as several people here that ask to have stuff brought back, we usually have to pack two extra suitcases just to get home.
An average trip usually brings back the following:
Tylenol with codeine (the over-the-counter variety)
Maple syrup (the Canadian Costco variety usually works)
Old Dutch potato chips (I prefer salt and vinegar, but a friend of mine is sick and always asks for ketchup flavor), though Humpty Dumpty will do if I'm east of Saskatchewan
A box of Timbits, which usually gets eaten on the plane
And then begins the whole long list of candy - Smarties, Aero (flavor unimportant), Wunderbar, Crunchies, Coffee Crisp, Kit Kat (the Nestle ones, not the icky US ones), etc.
Needless to say, a trip to Canada generally involves a trip to Costco.
