"Because they always have".

No idea why but for my 30 years of flying and probably wayyyy before that it has generally been the case.

Curiously all the airlines in Australia now quote ONLY one way fares and these MUST include all taxes. So it might be a system that is gradually breaking down?

A RT is just 2 one ways added together here.
