But what about the weather enroute - there has been some nasty weather in Texas Oklahoma Arkansas and Missouri of recent requiring a flight to vector around that. Tail winds are great but you can't use them to fly thru bad weather.

this is a very reasonable explanation ... there were apparently no enroute or destination wx issues and the
flight track was essentially direct
