Maybe I was being a bit harsh, I did receive a full can of Coke when asked for but I kinda expected them to come around to offer rather than them just being ok with a request. Even a "anything we can do to make your flight enjoyable don't hesitate to ask" would have been nice to let people know that they were encouraged to ask. Now I know.

It's not a question of harsh. There's a call button above you, there's FA's in the aisle on occasion and you can always take a stroll to the galley.
If people can't be bothered to push a button, they can't be that thirsty.
