Exactly..... that's the issue I have with how this was handled. It even kept me wondering if I would have ever heard something if I hadn't initiated contact again. And then not even knowing I had checked out already....
I off course knew the money would be gone and nobody would have confessed. It's also my word agains theirs, so there's little to be done anyway. My fault for leaving it in the room and feeling too familiar. But also a good reminder how difficult it is to lock up everything, there should be a charger in that safe :-).
