Okay, so I’m a masochist. I’ve resurrected this thread a few times and each time it’s like hitting your head against a wall, it only feels good when it stops. Instead of an interesting discussion about churning and CC bonuses in general, and if 500k per year per person is sustainable; it’s almost always a conga line of “I’ve (or my wife and I) earned x trillion points THIS year” posts. But, like moths to a light …

With even more restrictions on credit card and bonus churning over the past year or 2, seems that 500K per year in credit card sign-up bonuses, for one person without a business, year after year, has again in the past year or 2, become even more difficult.

Once again, it seems that the magical, if not completely random, 500,000 miles/points from credit card bonuses “EVERY year” has become even more difficult during the past year. As always, it would be interesting and informative to read what other people think about this subject.

In addition to the quote above from about a year and a half ago, forget about churning the Sapphire Preferred card, any serious churner opens 5 accounts every few months, let alone 2 years. Chase seems to have become much less churner friendly in general. The no-fee Citi Hilton card, which some people churned at a rate of 2 cards about every 66 days, is now limited to once per 18 months. I don’t follow the Citi Exec cards but haven’t seen much about them recently. Barclays US Air cards gone. Seems bonuses are averaging lower than they were a few years ago.

Other than a couple of years ago when I was in Afghanistan for a while, I’ve opened (and closed) about 20 new accounts annually for the past 4-5 years. I do not foresee 20 sign-up bonuses annually being possible going forward, thus 500K per year seems more difficult. Curious what others think about the future for Credit Card sign-up bonuses and churning.
