Can't help on the Gold upgrade question, but there's no significant difference between staying here or Sukhumvit in terms of travel time at that time of the day. The Novotel saves a 30-45 minutes taxi ride in the morning (plus whatever buffer you're comfortable with), but I'd say the "airport" LM makes little sense in your scenario.
